< 1. In the beginning >

This driver provides you the capability to output 2.5D engraving to the Roland iModela from your Windows graphics and drawing application software. This runs inMicrosoft Windows XP (32-bit) operationg system.

* What is 2.5D?
iModela can perform operations along the X and Y axes in much the same way as a plotter. For operations along the Z axis, two methods exist.

The first involves working at only a certain cutting depth, sending the values for tool-up and tool-down positions (the height values) to the machine. This method enables iModela to work with 2D CAD and graphics programs by reading the pen-up and -down instructions for the plotter.
The other method involves performing the same simultaneous control on the Z axis as on the X and Y axes to accomplish operations that use continuous coordinates. This method makes interoperation with 3D CAD programs possible, as long as the program can generate the proper output data for the Z axis.

The first method is called "2.5D."

< 5. Important Notes >

- This driver will output the data in RML-1.
If the machine have a command mode selection, set the command mode to [RML-1]. (For information on how to make the setting, refer to the user's manual for the machine.)

- If You're Using iModela Creator, 3D Engrave, MODELA Player 4 or ClickMILL
Cutting parameters and the like are all made in the program, and have no effect if set using this driver.

- This driver does not support output any bitmap (raster) data. It is impossible to output texts or border lines etc. from such applications that output bitmap data, for example word processing softwares.
We recommend to use drawing softwares.

- Specify the line width for cutting lines to hairline that is most narrowest line in the drawing program.
It may not be possible to cut lines of the another width.

- Some objects with Fill shapes are cut twice.
Set lines you want to cut once to no Fill (note that white is not no Fill) and make the setting for only Contour Line.

- When you will output True Type fonts, you should generate 'outlines' of texts to convert them into vector data. Please refer to the manual of your application software for this function. If your software does not have the function to generate outline, it is impossible to output True Type fonts.

- The depth (working distance along Z-axis) can be selected in the driver setting. The driver help explains how to configure your driver.
