Maxwell Renderer uses advanced ray tracing to accurately simulate the travel of light as it would be in the real world based on physics. This no-approximation approach gives Maxwell a degree of accuracy not seen in other renderers. Maxwell's materials generator and materials library are also outstanding. Users of Maxwell have free access to over 3500 documented materials online. There are two Maxwell product lines:
- Maxwell Render Suite: A standalone rendering platform for input from any CAD package
- Maxwell for Sketchup: A module designed specifically for Sketchup use

The Maxwell Standalone Render Suite includes module support for the following CAD packages:
Maxwell Fire
- The Maxwell Fire tool gives real-time rendering in a floating window during designing. The rendering is done in CPU space rather than GPU space, reducing the graphics card specs required. A list of which platforms are currently supported with Maxwell Fire is given in the table below (Current Maxwell Versions).

- The Maxwell Sketchup Standalone build is an economical version of Maxwell tailored just for Sketchup users. It will work with both Sketchup and Sketchup Pro. There is an unlicensed version limited to 800x800 pixels, and a licensed version capable of 1920x1080 pixels.
